Riverton Bicycling: Then & Now, Apr 18 at Porch Club

April 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

It’s a bicycling trifecta as the Porch Club and the Historical Society of Riverton co-sponsor Bicycling in Riverton: Then & Now at 7:00 pm April 18, 2017 at the Porch Club. Admission is free and open to the public.

Renowned Wheelman Gary Sanderson will speak about the history and development of the bicycle, Riverton’s velodrome that once stood between Thomas and Lippincott above the tracks, and the 1895 New York Times Tri-State Relay Race from New York City to Riverton.

Members of Cynergy Cycling Club of South Jersey will tell about their club and outline their plan to host a cycling rodeo for safety in Riverton on June 10, the day before the seventh running of the Historic Riverton Criterium.

Carlos Rogers reveals what inspired him to bring to his adopted hometown the family-friendly cycling classic known as the Historic Riverton Criterium. In a segment called Criterium 101 the former competitive cyclist explains his process in creating and managing the annual event, which has resulted in the donation of over $25,000 to local charities, institutions, and non-profits.

This presentation is a prelude to this year’s Historic Riverton Century and Community Ride on June 10, 2017. The all-day event in partnership with Cynergy Cycling Club will include morning rides of various lengths suited to ability, a bicycle safety rodeo, and a Community Ride beginning and ending at Riverview Estates on the riverbank. More details to come.
