  1. My Mother, Lillian Murphy Western, was a 1939 graduate of ST. Frances School of Nursing. She just turned 99 and still fondly remembers her Dean of Nursing, Sister Herman Joseph. Lillian’s health is failing but she would love to have a picture of Sister Herman Joseph, if one exists. If you could e-mail a picture to gwes129@bellsouth.net I would be sure that she got it.

Lillian lives at 431 King’s Highway, Milford, DE 19963. She has 6 children including Dr. Karl A. Western (Asst. Dir. of International Research at NIH), Edward Western (Consultant for Oak Ridge National Labs), Helene Diskau (Nurse Consultant for the State of Delaware) Joan Lofland (Retired Placement Dir. for Milford Memorial Hospital) (Paul Western (Retired Caulks Co.), and Mike Western (retired respiratory therapist for Christiana Hospital).

  2. I’m searching for information on Dr. Joseph E. Culver who was a physician at St. Francis Hospital in the 1800’s. He organized the County Medical Society and held every office. Member of N.Y. Pathological and Neurological Societies. Charter member of the New Jersey Academy of Medicine and was vice president. Any help would be appreciated very much. He was born Feb. 9, 1823 in Groton. Ct. Graduated from the College of Physician and Surgeons in June 1849.

    1. Hi, Ms. Fraser,
Although we display many images and some information about topics elsewhere in the region, our main focus is on Riverton history. I am glad to leave your comment here in case someone else happens across it and can help.
      Best regards,

  3. Wow, it’s fascinating to see folks reminiscing and seeking out historical connections right here in Trenton. Edward’s heartfelt message about his mother’s nursing days at St. Francis School of Nursing really brings home the deep roots many families have in our community. And Barbara’s quest to learn about Dr. Joseph E. Culver adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to our local history. Makes me wonder what other stories are waiting to be uncovered! ️‍♂️
