Thank you for posting the wonderful images. My very happiest childhood memories are of my family’s two-week vacations to Avalon from 1964 to 1969. I am trying to find information and photos of Avalon from that epoch. During my family vacations in the Sixties, the large Avalon pier building housed a Movie theater and Charley’s luncheonette. I know that the Avalon Pier building got condemned sometime in the late Sixties or Early Seventies. Charley had to relocate to the pier at the end of the boardwalk circa 33rd street. Another place of memories was Angelo’s Playland and luncheonette. I have memories of Angelo’s that date back to Nickle pinball. I know that the family continued to manage the arcade at least into the Early Eighties. I would love to see a picture of the old Angelo’s Playland. Also, I am searching for any information about what ever happened to Charley’s and Angelo’s Playland or if anyone else had memories they would like to share.
Our gang was there from 1965 – 1970. We hung out at the 23rd Street dock and in the evening on the boardwalk at 28th st and the dances at the brand new community center. Wonderful memories.
Hi, Greg
Glad you found us. Ah, yes, there is nothing like the Jersey Shore, and everyone seems to have a favorite. Stone Harbor, Wildwood, Long Beach Island, and of course, your preference, Avalon, are all here courtesy of generous donors who allowed their treasured postcard collections to be scanned and shared here. We are eager to add to all of our image collections and a donated scan is the next best thing to actually having the real postcard. You know most of these vintage postcard images predate your family vacation years of the 1960s, but a reader may yet stop by who can answer your questions.
Best regards,
John McCormick
I spent the best times of my life in Avalon starting in 1966. We hung out at Triddicos(spelling)vPizzaria. Owners never chased us out. Listened to great tunes that I can still recite for that year. We stayed with family friends at what I thought was 33rd and 3rd. Now Ocean? Anyway, it was the last road before the bay. Up until 1991the 3 family homes were there. Now gone.
The family friends were the Maxim and DelMar families
I am moving an 1895 Victorian that sat on 6th street for over 120 years to Cape May NJ. It was going to be demolished. Sad the town couldn’t do more to save some original structures. I post history and updates on the move. Please follow along on Facebook
Adrienne. My Grandmother was born in Avalon and the family lived on 6th Street. Their family home is gone. My Aunt Rose is the only living member of that generation. She helped start the Avalon historical society. There are pictures of 6th street. I’m sure you have been to the museum in Avalon.
Hi Patrice – thanks for reaching out! I wonder if they knew any of the Deans on 6th St? That was my Grandmother. I have been to the museum, and I need to head back soon to look at more pictures! Does your family have any of your home on 6th St? Did you see I moved the house to Cape May? There are videos and pictures if you google Avalon House move. You should follow my page The Avalon House on Facebook!

Hello. Did you know a Jane Theis that hung out there during that time?
