2/18/2014: The mention of A.A. Zimmerman in “The Fine Grounds of the Riverton Athletic Association” is an error. In fact checking statements about the 1895 race, I believe Zimmerman was actually talking about another track, not Riverton’s. Several athletes and officials of the day did praise the Riverton track, but we can’t place Zimmerman any nearer to Riverton than Mt. Holly. Note the Philadelphia Inquirer clipping in which experts characterized the Riverton bicycle race track as ”the finest quarter-mile track in the country.” – JMc
